The creation and dedication of this memorial is scheduled for the summer of 2015. It is designed to honor the selfless service and sacrifice of all York County First Responders. Standing over 14 feet tall and 12 feet wide, it features a large glass panel that depicts the silhouettes of a fire, law enforcement and emergency medical person. The silhouettes were employed to symbolize three concepts: the diversity of men and women who put themselves at risk to insure our safety, the clear glass also represents the invisibility of these public servants who only become apparent to us when we are in need of their service and finally the silhouette honors those who made the Supreme Sacrifice in their service to our community and are no longer among us.

The shrine is being designed, created and constructed by local York County companies and artisans. Glass artists, Cliff Maier and Tim Hirneisen, are affiliated with Rudy Art Glass. Also, contributing to the project is the skilled staff at Gamlet Inc., who are manufacturing the stainless steel frame and mounting for the glass panel. The design itself was developed in cooperation with area first responders. Once completed, the Safekeepers Shrine will be placed on a large patio adjoining the Court of Valor Memorial in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

ABOUT THE SHRINE
The glass panel begins with a plate glass sheet that is 9 feet tall and 7 feet wide. Two more layers of handblown glass, cut into hundreds of pieces, are then permanently bonded to the panel to create the memorial. Etched into the glass pieces are shapes and symbols of badges and other insignia of first responders. The resulting panel is over 65 square feet of 3/4" glass weighing over 650 lbs. The panel is then clad in a stainless steel box frame that can then be mounted to the large granite base. The granite itself, weighs more than 13,000 lbs.!
