Thomas Evans Cochran
March 23, 1813 to May 18, 1882
A lawyer (Cochran & Hay), he provided counsel to York’s Committee of Safety, including at the time of the Confederate occupation. Born in Delaware, he moved to York in 1834 and took charge of the York Republican, which he edited until 1853. In 1860, he was elected Auditor General of Pennsylvania and in 1872 was a member of the State Constitutional Convention, where he was chairman of the committee on “Railroads and Canals”.
